TWO Swindon Sunday League cup finals were contested this weekend as Rodbourne Real claimed the Chairman’s Trophy, while AFC Mannington collected the Bunny Uzzell Shield.

Jon Reeves watched his Real troops complete a routine win over Eldene, as they cruised to the Chairman’s Trophy with a 4-0 win.

First-half goals from Jim Griffin and Aaron Smith set them up well at half-time as they led 2-0, before Jerome Dodson and Nick Longdon completed the scoring in the second half.

“It wasn’t as routine as it sounds,” said Reeves.

“We are really pleased because that is our first trophy since we have been running, so it was a good day all round

“Now it is just a case of seeing the season out. The cup win took the pressure off because we have had a tough year, as we expected.

“It was nice to get a bit silverware, it shows we are going the right way. I’m just really pleased with it and I’m pleased for Dom McCloud who set the club up. It was a great day.”

Division Three’s AFC Mannington’s shield success was slightly less straightforward as they needed extra time to overcome Smart Movers, courtesy of goals from Louis O’Shea, Biagio Mazzotta, Jordan Lea and Mark Siaw.

AFC Mannington manager Kye Robinson said the trophy win had topped off a great year for him and his side.

“Overall the season has gone very well. We have adjusted to men’s football quickly and played really good football and are still unbeaten in the league so far. We didn’t do as well as we wanted to in the other two cups but we will hope to do better next year,” he said.

“I would have preferred to win in normal time though as it made extra time a bit nervy.

There were a few domestic fixtures, as Division One side FC Walcot scored six in their game against top-of-the-league Penhill United, claiming a crucial 6-2 home win.

The win meant title-chasing Walcot completed a quick-fire double as they were 4-1 winners over Jovial Monk on Thursday evening.

Swiss Chalet registered their fourth win of the campaign as they edged out a 3-2 result over their hosts, Coleshill Youth.

AFC Gas were also in action, they welcomed Cleve Tech who proved too strong for the hosts as they were beaten 4-1.

In Division Two, Croft Junior’s two goals weren’t enough to see them hold out for a home win as Rudis notched five to gather all three in a 5-2 score line.

Runaway league leaders Royal Wootton Bassett Town continued their impressive form, they dispatched Stratton Saints 5-0.

Athletico Marlborough were the weekend’s highest scorers as they put eight past hosts Wanborough to win 8-4.

Four goals were enough for Save on Tyres, who beat Swindon Athletic 4-1.

In the bottom tier, Cricklade Rangers won 6-2 at home to Sevenfield United, Paxton House United beat The Abbey Mead 7-0, while Charles Geddes clinched a 4-3 win away to Swindon Rovers.

PSV Swindon and Northern Lights ended 2-2.
