He knocked him out with one punch and stamped on his chest during a confrontation on Bridge Street on October 29 The victim was left in a critical condition, needed surgery, and spent months recovering in a specialist brain injury centre. Taylor pleaded guilty at Swindon Crown Court.

Det Cons Mike Armishaw from Wiltshire Police said: "It is true to say that the victim was making a nuisance of himself before he was assaulted but that does not warrant the violence that Taylor responded with.

“The victim was knocked unconscious and then kicked when he was on the ground causing very serious brain injuries, the impact of which may have a lifelong detrimental effect for both himself and his family.

“This case shows the very real risk of serious and far reaching consequences even from just one punch.”
