EAGER shoppers queued up to be the first into the new Wilkinson’s in Swindon this morning.

Crowds arrived early to get their hands on a free £10 voucher, only available for the first 100 shoppers, and explore the new store which moved from its premises on Fleet Street to The Parade.

The new Branch Manager James Gray said: “It’s been going really well. We had massive queues this morning. 190 people outside the doors before we even opened, and we had a great reception from everyone so far. It’s been non-stop since. It’s all go on the tills. Customers seem to be loving it and shopping around the whole store.

“Compared to our old store the kitchen range has taken off really well. The garden range being at the front of the store, which normally people don’t normally see, but now they’re exploring the range we’ve got there.”

“They're also loving the toiletries, which is what we’ve always been know for, they’re loving that and people are buying all the great offers we’ve got on there.

“It’s taken off better than I expected. It’s my first new store personally so I didn’t know what to expect. It’s been overwhelming I suppose is the word, it’s been a great reaction from Swindon.”

Paul Smith, from Penhill, said: “It was really packed this morning. It’s got a good layout. You can find everything and it’s good it’s all on one level because my wife is in a wheelchair so it’s much better than having to get lifts and escalators.”

Daughter Roxy smith, also from Penhill, added “It was so busy you couldn’t move. We got everything we needed though, the usual household stuff, some dog treats, a bird feeder and some toiletries.”
