FOR the second year running friends and former colleagues of Iain Perkins are coming together to celebrate his life by organising a memorial golf day.

Iain, who was married to Jill and the father of two daughters, suffered a heart attack and died in April 2016 aged only 63.

Last year’s event raised over £8200 in memory of the Nova Hreod teacher with proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation. Iain’s family have chosen to support the BHF again and are hoping to match last year’s fundraising success.

Charlie Foster who is on the organising committee for the event said: “When Iain passed away his death had a huge impact on a wide range people.

“He was an incredibly active man who contributed a huge amount to the local community. He helped run several rugby clubs and also worked as a volunteer driver for the NHS, helping patients get to and from appointments.

This year’s golf day will take place at South Cerney Golf Club on Friday June 1 there a few spaces left for individual and team entries.

Mr Foster continued: “Organising this event Is a great way for us to remember Iain and help raise money for an important cause. We were overjoyed at the response to this event last year and hope to replicate the success again this year.

“All the money raised will be added to the Gift of Hope fund set up in in Iain’s memory which will help the BHF fund more pioneering research into the causes and treatment of heart disease.”
