COURT: A driver who tried to avoid being arrested was jailed for nine weeks after he was caught at the wheel when he was more than twice the alcohol limit.

Dawid Trzeciak, 26, of Broad Street, did not have a licence when he drove a Mazda on Milford Street on April 28 and there was no insurance on the vehicle.

Swindon magistrates heard that when he was breathalysed he gave a reading of 91 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Trzeciak pleaded guilty to all three charges and was told he was being jailed because of the high reading, his record of previous offending and the fact he had tried to evade police. He was also told to pay a £115 victim surcharge and £95 prosecution costs.
