STAFF from RWE, Npower and Innogy in Swindon will run, walk, hop or leap up to 10km in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Last year’s event raised £3,620 for the charity, but employees are aiming to exceed that total as the fun run enters its eighth year.

Runners will make their way across the scenic surroundings of Lydiard Park as volunteer marshals and first aiders help to ensure a smooth race the course.

Hope Jack from RWE Supply & Trading, who helps to organise the event, said: “We are hoping for a really good turn out this year, more than 120 people have pre-registered, with many more expected to join in on the day. We are all taking part for an excellent cause and hope to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.”

The supply and trading company says it prioritises the health and safety of its staff, focusing on both physical and mental wellbeing. RWE’s onsite occupational health team has recruited ‘wellbeing champions’ to support them and promote relevant health messages and events across the UK.

Robert Manson, head of occupational health and wellbeing in the UK, said: “Events like the Swindon five and 10k are an excellent way to support employees with their health and wellbeing aspirations. It doesn’t matter if you walk part of the way or run the full 10k, it is about making a positive start and taking care of physical and mental wellbeing.”

Both the 5km and 10km routes will start on June 5 at 10am from the Windmill Hill Business Park.
