THE weather gods answered the prayers of organisers of Concert At The Kings yesterday when morning rain turned into sunshine ready for the gates in All Cannings, near Devizes to to thousands of people wanting to pay tribute to music legends of past and present.

After two years of rain it was back to blue skies for Rock Against Cancer which attracts some of the biggest names in music to a field at the back of a village pub.

Thousands packed the ground to see rhythm and blues legend Billy Ocean show why he is still a huge star. The showman danced, sang and chatted to the crowd as he and is supremely professional band and backing singers delighted the audience.

As strains of Caribbean Queen drifted over the Wiltshire countryside organisers Grubby Callis and pub landlord Richard Baulu could be seen with smiles on their faces as the 7th Concert At The Kings was declared a huge success.

Earlier in the day singer songwriter Paul Carrack also showed what true professionalism is all about as he too looked like he was having a fantastic time in All Cannings as he smiled and joked his way through a set laden with huge hits.

The Stranglers and From The Jam also sang songs people loved to sing along with and the event a carnival atmosphere. Even the threatened lightening which saw organisers get Billy Ocean on stage ahead of schedule stayed away until after the music finished.

Grubby said: "It has been a good one."
