HILPERTON’S community spirit shone through the grey skies on Saturday for another successful edition of its traditional village family fete.

Despite the overcast, and at times, rainy conditions, hundreds headed down to the village hall and field for an afternoon of music, face painting, archery, rifle shooting, craft making, stalls and much more.

One of the organisers, Tony Short, thanked his fellow volunteers for making the event possible and to the public for making it such a joyous occasion.

“Apart from the fact that there was a bit of rain and it was cloudy, everyone had a really good time - it certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits,” he said.

“The Lion and Fiddle came down and they sold out of food, which was good for us and them. The scouts had a great time and Michelle Donelan came down too which was good.

“They brought this old Second World War pump that was used to put out fires during the war, which was great to see. A lot of people were very interested in that.

“This would not have been possible without our team of loyal volunteers who have spent the last month or so putting this all together.

“That is another great example of community spirit that Hilperton has.

“There was a great mix of things to do on the day which people seemed to really enjoy it all, be it the crafts, the cake sales or the music.”

Although the proceeds from the fete have not been counted yet, Mr Short says they will all go on maintaining the village hall. “It is a key part of our community so whatever we can raise towards that is good,” he added.
