Meaningless quotes

You know nothing about me Mr. Adams (SA, June 26)! I know a lot about you (because of your letters).

I am not interested in your beliefs and the quotes that you write: ‘Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord’ and ‘I will repay’. What does this mean? What vengeance? It sounds very petty and childlike!

As for ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.’ As he knew my granddaughter in the womb before she was born, perhaps I could ask why he permitted her to live only 19 days before her heart stopped. She was one of a twin.

I might add, all quotes come from men writing down their thoughts, not divine action as the tablets of stone that Moses brought down from the mountain were supposed to be etched into stone.

As there were far more than the ten commandments I am puzzled as to how he managed to carry all those flagstones down the mountain on his own. Man chose what commandments to follow. It was man that decided the ones that we had to live by.

I have a lot of thoughts going through my mind Mr. Adams. What a shallow life you must live, as there is more to life than believing in God. After all, faith is belief without facts!

I was brought up to believe (my grandfather was a lay preacher). At the age of ten I began to give it a lot of thought and came to the conclusion that this ‘God’ does not and never did exist. For instance, show me one thing that this God has done for humanity.

You have been rude to me twice Mr Adams. I am right, you are wrong - end of!

Get in touch

During the mid 50s I was working at Marine Mountings, Wroughton.

During this period I met a young lady by the name of Gillian Mary Robins. At that time she was living with her parents in Lansdown Road. I joined the army at the back end of 1956 and never saw her again.

I know this is a rather long shot but I would like to renew, if possible, contact with her again, if only through correspondence.

Look after the past

Going past the Milton Road baths I noticed a banner on the outside of the building saying that your heritage is important.

So why is it that our council have got rid of most of our lovely old buildings which were the town’s heritage?

There is hardly anything left. It’s such a shame as when I visit other towns because they have looked after theirs. So why can’t Swindon?
