Time to mosey on down to Saddleback Music Festival, where local boy Jon Amor will make a welcome return to the main stage.

Now in its second year, the blues/rock festival is hosted by Devizes Sports Club, and runs from 11.30am on Saturday, July 14. Jon will be joined in the line up by Marcus Bonfanti, front man of the rock band Ten Years After, and Mollie Marriott, daughter of 1960s icon Stevie Marriott from Small Faces and Humble Pie.

Jon comes from a musical background and was hugely influenced first by his father who sold his own clarinet to help pay for Jon’s Fender Stratocaster, and then by Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits. His brother taught him his first few chords on his own acoustic guitar and Jon then discovered the guitar genius of Eric Clapton and the raw blues of Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf.

He grew up just outside Devizes where he met Jesse, Rob Davey and Hugh Coltman who were destined to be his co-conspirators in The Hoax. The band was an instant success and Jon says it was due to the fact that there weren’t many young bands playing blues at the time and The Hoax was made up of some strong characters.

In 1999 the band split, although they reformed in 2009 for a mini 20th anniversary tour, and but Jon continues to perform both as a solo artist and with The Jon Amor band as well as writing his own songs.

Mollie Marriott was another child who grew up in a musical family and at the age of 15 years old she was asked to sing by Liam Gallagher on some demos for the Oasis album Heathen Chemistry.

She has since shared the stage with a number of big names including Joe Brown, Dennis Locorriere (Dr Hook), Mark Knopfler, The Who, Mick Huckall, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Van Morrison, Chas and Dave She is well regarded for her session work for ITV and the BBC in advertisements and film vocals. She was also invited to sing at The Royal Albert Hall with Dean Rees, Steve Ellis and Ronnie Wood as part of the Ronnie Lane Memorial Concert and her late father’s backing singer P.P Arnold.

Marcus Bonfanti also worked as a sideman for PP Arnold, but his inspiration to pick up a guitar came from the album Led Zeppelin 1V - it was a track called Black Dog. He had originally played trumpet but once his mum rummaged around in the attic to find an old guitar he was hooked. He worked in a kitchen to earn enough to pay for his own guitar. He was 15 at the time and at the last count he owned 16 guitars swapping on stage between acoustic and electric.

In 2014 he became the frontman of Ten Years After, who this year celebrate their golden anniversary with a 50th anniversary tour. Ten Years After toured the world extensively, including 28 tours of the USA in eight years. In the August of 1969 they played Woodstock Festival and appeared in the Woodstock film, released the following year. Also in 1970, they appeared at the Isle of Wight Festival and in that film, which was finally released in 1995.

Today Marcus runs his own solo career and playing with the band in tandem.

Rock names on the second stage include Innes Sibun who played guitar for Robert Plant and John Verity, former lead singer with rock band Argent. Opening for them will be Avebury singer/songwriter George Wilding. The acoustic stage will have a line-up including locals Tamsin Quinn and Jamie R Hawkins.
