AN ADVICE service for developers hoping to submit successful planning applications will be relaunched.

Councillors at the latest Swindon Borough Council planning meeting voted unanimously to launch a new and improved Pre-application Advice Service.

The service allows developers to pay for advice before applying to build new developments for town regeneration and growth in and around Swindon.

It has been operating in Swindon since 2010.

Despite the council generating more than £400,000 from major development schemes to fund the service, it has struggled to cover costs and meet all the needs of the developers in a timely manner.

Councillors pledged that the relaunch will include more face-to-face meetings with developers and a quicker response time, plus a new charging structure with a more streamlined system to make the service more cost effective.

A date for the relaunch was not given at the meeting.

At the same meeting, plans a discussion of plans for the demolition of buildings at the bus depot on Eastcott Road to create 45 residential units with pedestrian access and parking facilities was pushed back to an unspecified future planning meeting.
