A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued by the Met Office that comes right up to Swindon and covers some of the Cotswolds and the M4

The warning runs from 2pm until 11.59pm on Friday and the town itself is on the very edge of the warning zone, which covers most of the south-east of England.

Most places should be dry, but there could be some slow-moving thundery downpours in places, weather experts have said.

The Met office says: “There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater.

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train, bus and tube services, particularly during the evening rush hour.

“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions with the possibility of road closures

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”

The actual forecast for Swindon says rain is unlikely though rain on Friday evening is forecast for Westbury, but Oxfordshire, whose border is a few miles north east of Swindon is covered by the thunderstorm warning
