A MIDDLE aged Trowbridge man has been banned from driving for nearly two years after being found guilty of drink driving.

Krzysztof Frebel, aged 54, of Roundstone Street, appeared at Chippenham Law Courts on Thursday (July 19), where he was disqualified from driving for 22 months.

Frebel drove a Mercedes A200 into a ditch off West Ashton Road on March 14.

Police were called by a witness and Frebel was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to custody where he provided a breath sample which showed he was twice the legal drink drive limit.

On top of the disqualification, he was ordered to carry out unpaid work for 100 hours within the next 12 months, pay a victim services surcharge of £85 and Crown Prosecution Service costs of £620.

PC Jonathan Kilburn said: “When breathalysed, Frebel was found to be twice the legal drink drive limit. His actions were completely unacceptable – by getting behind the wheel of a car having consumed this amount of alcohol, he put himself, other road users and pedestrians at a huge amount of risk.”

“People can often feel invincible when they have consumed alcohol but your ability to drive a vehicle safely is severely impacted. Your reactions are slower, your vision can be blurred and judging distance and speed is difficult.

“I hope this sentence sends a clear message to anyone considering drink driving that your actions could result in a serious accident, and you could face a lengthy driving ban.”
