THE women and girls of Swindon can get free self-defence classes from celebrity trainer Matt Fiddes.

Matt, who went to St Joseph’s School in Swindon and lives near Royal Wootton Bassett, is putting on the classes this summer.

And he is using his profile to start a national campaign teaching women’s self-defence and safety.

The celebrity trainer, who was Michael Jackson’s bodyguard for 10 years and security adviser to Kim Kardashian, is teaming up with current Miss Great Britain Saffron Heart to give women the skills to fight off attackers.

Matt, who owns the largest chain of martial art schools in the world, shared the details of the campaign exclusively with the Adver saying: “If we can just change one person’s life it will make our campaign worthwhile.

“Myself and Saffron will tour parts of the UK but I told her I want to start it in my home town of Swindon where my martial arts career started.

“Saffron is a strong believer in supporting the right causes. She is passionate about this campaign and looking forward to visiting my home town and where it all started from.”

After Swindon the tour will visit Saffron’s home town of Hull before going to a larger event in London.

Matt hopes to use the opportunity to raise the profile of local campaign Bring Back Oliver’s Smile.

The campaign, started by Samuel May, is looking to raise £10,000 to pay for hydrotherapy sessions for five-year-old Oliver Johnson who suffered severe brain damage after a seizure.

Matt’s own two-year-old son suffered a seizure and stopped breathing in October, but Matt was able to use his CPR training until an ambulance arrived and his son managed to make a full recovery.

“This is a cause close to my heart as my son had the same thing and I was lucky enough to being able to perform CPR until a ambulance arrived 21 minutes later,”he added.

“Miss GB will help me support my passion to help parents learn how to perform CPR on their children. She has watched what happened to my son Hero which has been featured by the national media and wants to help with my campaign for that too.”

The trainer has managed to get Saffron to support Bring Back Oliver’s Smile as well and is hoping to take her to meet Oliver and Samuel when they come to visit.

A date and venue is to be confirmed for the training sessions.

All women and teenage girls can attend for free.
