FOUR men, 72 holes, 15 hours and 25 miles of walking has all added up to £2,500 to help fight cancer.

The quartet from Royal Wootton Bassett Cricket Club embarked on the golf marathon for Macmillan’s Longest Day Golf Challenge, raising £2,500.

They teed off at 4:20pm at the Wiltshire Country and Golf Club in Wootton Bassett and completed the challenge the following day at 8:30am and were surprised by 30 friends and family at the final hole who applauded their final putts.

Jack Paish, Jack Twine, Sam Lawro and Charlie Knight all took part in the fundraiser because they have each been affected by cancer in some way.

Jack Paish said: “We have all known someone affected by cancer and are aware of the great work and support Macmillan give.

“The support we received was fantastic and the day was brilliant.

“All of us were very emotional at the end when we were welcomed at the final hole to the sound of clapping.”

He added: “Thank you to everyone who donated, our target was £500, and we have smashed that.”

Over the 72 holes, they walked over 25 miles, and all finished under 100 on the scorecard. The first two rounds of the day were completed within six hours.

They started on Friday July 27 and finished the following morning.

One player's grandmother had been ill with cancer and one of their fellow players from their cricket club died from the illness 18 months ago. It all, they say, spurred them on with the event.

Jack Paish added: “It was extremely sentimental to all of us and the adrenaline kept us going for most of the time we were out on the course.”

They had one break to freshen up and refuel with food which lasted for 45 minutes before they were back out on the green.

The cricketers each posted on the Justgiving page player profiles about one another which gave an insight of what to expect.

Sam Lawro is described as being the mischievous troublemaker of the four and the Mourinho of the group as he will use mind games over his opponents.

The somewhat cheeky profile says Jack Twine is known more for his bad dress sense rather than his golfing ability.

Following this is Charlie Knight is described as being the safe player of the bunch as he is said to not take a risk whilst on the golf course.

And finally Jack Paish is described as being an aggressive player who will show his emotions especially if he has made a bad shot.
