What more appropriate place for a locomotive and engine could there be than Swindon’s Steam museum?

Except this one is actually built for plants.

It was donated by the members of Swindon Men’s Shed who made it in their weekly sessions as part of their recovery from strokes.

The project’s co-ordinator Chris Chidsey, 52, said: “It took us quite a while to make it. We only meet for a couple of hours a week, and it’s entirely voluntary so people come along when they want.

“And because everyone in the group has suffered a stroke, then sometimes it takes a bit longer for us to do things. There were about six of us who worked on it overall.”

Chris added: “When we started, we didn’t know where we were going to donate it. But we’re all very proud of it.

“When Steam agreed to take it we were really pleased, because we would like it to be seen by a lot of people, so it’s the ideal location.”

The Swindon Men’s Shed was set up to help men in their rehabilitation after a stroke and to make friends.

The group meets on Wednesday afternoons at council premises in Upham Road. Projects involve recycling wood to create items such as bird tables, nesting boxes, planters and outdoor furniture.
