MOVING with the times is what’s kept the Wanborough Show a big success year after year.

And this weekend’s event was no exception with crowds turning out in force despite the weather not being glorious sunshine.

The village show has been running for over 80 years and has “adapted with the times”, said chairman of the event Martin Ripley.

Local resident of Wanborough Paige Hunt said: “I love coming to this event and look forward to it every year.

“There is always a variety of things to choose from to do and it’s just a fantastic day out.”

Jamil Mohammed lives in Swindon with his wife and three children and this was their first time attending the event.

He said: “I’d heard what a great experience this is and what a brilliant family atmosphere it has so I thought what a treat this would be for us all to go to.

“It definitely didn’t disappoint – my kids had the best time. I’m already looking forward to the next one.”

Adam Philips said: “There is something for everyone who comes to the Wanborough Show.

“You are always thinking how they will top this next year but somehow they always manage too.”

Darren Childs is a car enthusiast, he said: “This is always a great event but the vehicles parade was a highlight for me.”

This year there were some new attractions such as a climbing wall and a vehicle parade, which started from the Harrow pub.

On top of this was a feast of entertainment for people to get involved with such as tug of war, ferret racing, produce and craft classes, and children’s activities.

There were three huge marquees set up, filled with produce from flowers to cakes while dogs strutted their stuff in a companion show and children enjoyed the chance to stroke a calf, pat a friendly pony or say hello to some sheep.

The Galloping Acrobatics horses Tinker and Casper set the show alight as they amused the crowds with their skipping, while their riders performed equestrian stunts.

One of the most highly-anticipated event options was the dog show, which had awards for the puppy class, cross breed and the most likely to take home.

And there was a new stand aimed at getting families involved with a new craze that has spread throughout the UK in recent months – rock painting.

Many parents along with their children created unique designs on their canvass of a stone to get ready to hide somewhere after the event.

Martin said: “There is nothing better than seeing families and kids watching the entertainment we have provided and enjoying themselves.

“We are always trying to introduce new stuff to keep the show progressing with the times and keeping people interested in what has become a tradition.

He added: “This is the best job in the world and I couldn’t ask for anything more than a safe and successful display.”
