AN ‘explosion’ has left West Swindon homes without power – and may have ruined Christmas dinner for some.

People living in Plattes Close heard a loud bang at around 2pm this afternoon and were shocked to see a section of the pavement dislodged and flames coming from the hole.

Workers from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks have been attempting to fix the fault and have told neighbours they expect to restore power to properties in the SN5 postcode by 8pm tonight.

Plattes Close resident Lee Sims told the Adver: “There was a big explosion and flames coming out. No power to all houses around the area.

“I’m sat here in the dark whilst the Christmas food’s defrosting.

“We've spent lots of money on food and if it isn't rectified soon it's going to cost us a lot of money.”
