MAKE sure you keep warm this winter - that's the message from Hampshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) as the temperature drops and the winter weather sets in.
The death rate increases during winter (counted as December to March), and in Hampshire for the 2005-06 period, there were 20% more deaths, so it's absolutely vital to keep warm, particularly older and more vulnerable members of the community.
This is even more important this year as the Met Office is predicting a colder winter than last year.
Jean Bradlow, Hampshire PCT director of public health said: "There are many ways to stay warm and healthy this winter, you can even get help with the costs of keeping your home warm.
"Firstly, if you've received a letter from your GP offering you a free flu jab then do go - this is the first line of defence for your health over the winter.
"Make sure you dress and eat well, and keep comfortably warm at home, especially during the night, and please keep a watchful eye on any vulnerable neighbours, friends or family."
