CHILDREN stood on their tiptoes with faces pressed against the shop window while young teenage girls jostled for position at the head of the line.
Hundreds of people queued outside WH Smith in Regent Street yesterday, but this was not a mad rush for a special stationary sale.
They were all there to catch a glimpse of one of the most photographed women in the country. That's the pulling power of Katie Price - or Jordan as she used to be known.
The glamour model, turned author turned pop star, kept people on tenterhooks as she visited the town to sign copies of her new book Pushed To The Limit.
Many waited with cameras outstretched in anticipation of her arrival.
The 29-year-old was cheered as she made her way to greet the Swindon public.
Security guards and her agent flanked her as flashbulbs lit up the store.
The mum-of-three opted for a grey causal look with a zipped up top, skirt and boots.
But what is it that gives Katie the x-factor?
"She's stunning and so down to earth," said Carly Turner.
The 19-year-old from Stratton was at the front of the queue with friend Ashley Dowling.
"It was the first time I have met her and she looks far prettier in real life," Carly added. She definitely has an aura about her and she always looks out for her fans."
Kelly Flanagan, 17, from Middleleaze, said: "She's such a lovely person - I'm a big fan and think she's gorgeous."
Sarah Hicks, 22, said: "She had taken criticism about her parenting skills but I think she's a role model to so many people.
"She appeals to everyone from mums to red blooded males."
Jordan, married to pop star Peter Andre, said the welcome of her fans in Swindon was something she had not expected.
"It's busy and happening. I'm pleasantly surprised by Swindon," she said.
"I want to thank them all for their support."
She said her third autobiography is a frank account of her life to date and hopes it will "inspire people".
It deals with her depression and the happiness she felt at the birth of third child Princess Tiaamii.
A camera crew was filming for Katie's latest reality TV show that will be broadcast in March.
The crew said the number of people waiting for autographs was greater than the previous day's signing in Picadilly, London.
Jordan: Pushed to the Limit is out now, priced at £18.99.

While I'm tempted to agree with you, I would rather young girls worked to become famous than simply got pregnant at 16 and then did nothing but pump out children to keep up their benefits for the rest of their lives.

It's not like the Adver has to keep to deadlines like the national press.

None I think you should just take the time to read her books, to really know what gone in her life from her childhood to her becoming a mum. If you havent read her books then you have no right to even comment on her.

I, for one, find this somewhat disturbing in that it promotes the notion of something for nothing which underpins our degenerating society.
