Fadwa is beauty contest winner

A TROWBRIDGE woman has been selected to represent Wiltshire in the final of the Miss England competition.

Fadwa Boutarfas, of Bradley Road, beat 50 women, including 18-year-old Naomi Havergal, of Lacock Gardens, Trowbridge, to the regional crown during a selection day in Swindon and subsequent text message vote backed up by the favour of the judges.

The 23-year-old is studying a degree in residential surveying at a London educational institute.

She has six sisters and one brother and describes her father Mohammed Boutarfas, 70, a well-known Trowbridge man, as her hero.

The ceremony to mark her victory in Wiltshire takes place at the weekend and she is set to compete against other women from across the country in the national final in July.

Miss Boutarfas, who puts her success down to her relentless self promotion around Trowbridge, said: "I worked hard to get myself out there, speaking to local businesses and getting all my friends involved including the people on my local residents' committee, of which I am a member.

"I'm a deep thinking person, with lots of personality. It's not all about beauty.

"I'm also really grateful to Rare Clothing in Castle Place and the Mane Event hair salon in Trowbridge who helped me prepare for the day. The boys at Wiltshire Fire Brigade have also been great and the Trowbridge Angels helped too."

She works part time in her family's sandwich shop Snack Stop in Market Street, Trowbridge.

Her friend Steve Nash from Trowbridge Town Council said: "You've got to be gorgeous to stand a chance and Fadwa has the looks but she is also a genuinely nice person who has voluntarily helped me out with the West Wilts Show in Trowbridge for many years. I wish her luck."
