TROWBRIDGE Twinning Association is organising a coach trip to visit its twin town of Leer in Germany in October.

It is a special trip is to mark the celebration of the 500th Gallimarkt, traditionally a cattle market, being held in the town from October 8-12.

Residents in Leer are busy organising a full festival of events which will take place in the town to celebrate this important event in their history, with the added attraction of a traditional German fair.

Leer will also be hosting the Ostfrieslandschau, the equivalent of the West Wilts Show, when thousands of people and exhibitors will descend on this pretty harbour town.

Trowbridge/Leer Twinning Association is booking a 35 seater coach for the trip on which there are currently spare seats available.

The cost with a full coach is £84 per person, with the possibility of being hosted by a family in Leer.

Chairman Alan Somerville said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Trowbridge to experience at first hand the cultures and way of life in our twin town.

"Accommodation is free if you are hosted, with meals provided by the host.

"Leer is a very attractive harbour town with lots to see and do and something to suit everyone - it will be an experience to remember."

For more details, contact the association's secretary Trisha Carpenter on (01225) 351215 or email trishc@trowbridge.gov.uk by Friday May 9.

Trowbridge is going downhill, where any organisations or clubs with ambition or the desire to improve things for locals is met with negativity, a town where with a couple of exceptions, the councillors have no ambition other than to further their own ego's. No cinema, a theatre which holds 130, another hall which needs temporary seats in it to get a half decent view, a swimming pool too cold even for penguins, a football and rugby club with superb ideas which will never get past the planners cos they cant afford the backhanders supermarkets give, a park which is not safe to walk in after dusk, a multi storey car park which is being used illegally by the organisation which should be shutting it down. I now live in Westbury and it puts Trowbridge to shame

Why would Trowbridge be "twinned" with a harbour town? They have sod-all in common, but no doubt civic "dignitaries" had a free trip or two.

What has Westbury got going for it....on a purely health and wellbeing note...

Swimming Pool is not full of cold water kept at a temperature to suit the swimming and diving club.

Superb sports facilities at Leighton & Blue Circle, and two top class gymn's.

The football club has floodlights, a clubhouse etc runs an Under 18 team for the younger element.

I can walk around at night and not feel threatened (Very important)

Local shops not mulitples, so better service on the whole.

Don't get me wrong I am Trowbridge born and bred and hate to see things in such a mess, which is why I am trying to do something about it with TTFC.

At least in Westbury the council gets things done and tries to back new initiatives. Its not perfect by any stretch but on the whole the quality of life and surroundings is better without doubt.
