WILTSHIRE'S new High Sheriff, Madeline Wilks started her year in office on Tuesday.
Mrs Wilks takes over the role from Peter Pleydell-Bouverie and will be responsible for a number of ceremonial duties including attendance at royal visits, the presentation of court awards and the protection of high court judges when they visit the county.
The High Sheriff will also work with charitable and voluntary organisations.
Mrs Wilks' principal charity will be Crimebeat, which works with young people to reduce crime, and she also hopes to raise awareness of the complex and little known genetic disorder, Prader-Willi Syndrome.
Born in Woodborough, Mr Wilks now lives in Pewsey and has a husband, William, and three children.
"I am honoured to have been chosen as this year's High Sheriff of Wiltshire. It means a great deal to both me and my family," she said. "I look forward to giving whatever constructive support I can to the judiciary and the police as well as progressing some of the exciting initiatives started by my predecessors."
