Tanya's made of the write stuff

A SIXTH former at St Augustine's Catholic College in Trowbridge has won a prize in a national writing competition.

Tanya Stockting, 17, came second in the Robin McNair Prize contest and received her award from Lord Tebbit at the Houses of Parliament in London.

The prize commemorates one of Britain's leading second world war fighter pilots who was a member of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC).

Tanya's award-winning essay was entitled The rights of disabled people and the preciousness of human life.

Tanya won £150 while St Augustine's College getting a similar amount.

Lord Tebbit, 77, was a secretary of state and Conservative party chairman during Baroness Thatcher's time of government.
