A BREAMORE pub is hoping to put itself on the culinary map with a new award-winning chef on its team.
The Bat & Ball Inn on Salisbury Road has tempted Alicia Storey to join them as Head Chef.
Alicia, 23, was the De Vere group young chef of the year in 2006 and recently left the award-winning White Star in Southampton, where she was second chef.
Kym Lanham, owner of the pub, said: "Since buying the business, it has been our intention to bring this pub back to a destination pub that will be your first choice, whether you want a coffee, a quick pint, or a quality meal. Alicia is the final piece in our jigsaw and we look forward to taking The Bat & Ball forward with her."
Her impact has been immediate as the first thing Kym had to do was get rid of some freezers. "She said she won't need them as everything will be freshly cooked, and if it can be home-made it will be, even our pickles and chutneys are home-made."
Alicia said: "People are far more switched on to what's on their plate and where it comes from. I'll only use free-range chicken, even if it's only going in a sandwich, and the same applies to all of the other ingredients. 90 per cent of my suppliers are within a 15-mile radius of the restaurant."
