Helicopter drops in for flying visit

SCHOOLCHILDREN in Bradford on Avon enjoyed a flying visit on Tuesday when a Navy helicopter dropped by.
A Sea King helicopter crew flew in from Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, near Helston in Cornwall, and gave 200 pupils from Year 7 the chance to learn more about the Navy.
Headmaster James Colquhoun, whose father Kenneth was once Commanding Officer at RNAS Culdrose, said: "Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day.
"I was given the opportunity to host a good will call from the Navy and we have been preparing for it for the last fortnight. We couldn't involve the whole school but the youngest children had a very interesting experience."
The Sea King is larger than normal helicopters and impressed the children who got the chance to go on board.
The crew gave them a brief tour of the helicopter and then showed them a DVD about the role of the Navy before returning back to Cornwall.
It was a homecoming visit for Navy pilot Pat Douglas, who grew up in Bradford on Avon and used to live in Avoncliff with his family.
