TOWN mayors have been appointed in Westbury and Bradford on Avon.
Westbury's new mayor will be Cllr Mike Hawkins, while Sue Ezra takes on the role of deputy mayor, following a vote at a town council meeting last Wednesday.
Cllr Hawkins, who previously served as mayor in 2005/2006, praised outgoing mayor Cllr Charlie Finbow, before outlining his thoughts for the year ahead. He said: "I think the biggest issue will be the one unitary authority in Wiltshire.
"We want to ensure that the current level of services in the town, which have been diminished with the loss of the hospital and the closure of the police office, are maintained during this transition from district/county to unitary.
"The town is growing and the people of Westbury deserve the best that we can obtain for them.
"I also support the bypass for Westbury. I understand the concerns of the protesters but my first concern is for the well-being and health of the people living in Westbury."
Cllr Simon Fisher was elected as deputy mayor for the second year running.
