9:50am Wednesday 9th July 2008

The Splash-Wiltshire activity programme for young people, which kicks off on the 31st July and runs until the end of August, will provide hundreds of activity sessions this summer.

Young people aged between 10 and 16 years can choose from the Mainstream Programme containing exciting and energising activities including fishing, archery & climbing at Oxenwood Outdoor Education Centre, golf tuition, a "Happy Feet" dance workshop, sports sessions and a fabulous art project with Community Artists "No Added Sugar" entitled "Don't forget your Paintbrush" and as an added incentive many of these projects are free.

Vulnerable young people aged between 9 and 16 can also benefit from places on the Targeted Programme (Splash TAP).

A total of 11 different TAP projects have been organised this year ranging from a residential trip to a working farm near Glastonbury with (BTCV) British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (this project is specifically for young people who live in Kennet) to xtreme sports programmes to "Turf n Surf" days to name just a few.

TAP offers support to vulnerable young people, for example young people who have been excluded from school to those who have emotional and behavioural difficulties the full criteria for this programme is found on the nomination form which can be downloaded from the website.

A referral process is in place for all TAP places. All projects are free.

Splash-Wiltshire is based at Chippenham Police Station and has been offering support to young people in summer holidays for 18 years. Established as a registered charity it works with the Wiltshire Police and many other partners across Swindon and Wiltshire to deliver positive activity programmes for young people.
