PEOPLE in Mere are gearing up for this year's carnival celebrations, taking place next month.
The fun starts on Tuesday, September 9 with a quiz night in Mere lecture hall at 7.30pm.
On the Thursday, a race night will take place at the Walnut Tree Inn. The first race is at 7.45pm.
Friday will see a showing of the 2007 film, Son of Rambow, in the lecture hall at 7.30pm.
Carnival Day itself, on the Saturday, starts with a children's fancy dress procession. Children should assemble at Mere School (the old Duchy Manor School), by 2pm. Judging will take place at 2.15pm, after which the procession will commence, led by the Carnival Princess and her three attendants, bands and majorettes.
Those wishing to join the Grand Evening Procession should be in White Road by 6pm. The procession will move off at 7.30pm, led again by the Carnival Princess, her three attendants, bands and majorettes.
Entry forms for both processions are now available from Mere post office.
The grand draw will take place after the children's procession at approximately 3.45pm in The Square.
