A huge crane being used by Devizes builders Gaigers Brothers to build new offices and flats in Devizes Market Place provided a perfect training opportunity for Wiltshire firefighters last night.

A crew from Devizes used their training drill to practice rescuing a 'casualty' from the cab of the crane 100 feet up.

They were joined by specialist rope rescue firefighters from Chippenham and Trowbridge, who brought the casualty down to the ground by using ropes.

The casualty was played by Devizes firefighter Tom Brolan.
