Arts and crafts in the barn

CLAY modelling, portraiture and a potter's wheel entertained the crowds in Bradford on Avon on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Tithe Barn Workshop and Galleries welcomed hundreds of visitors, offering pottery demonstrations as well as furniture and antique restorations.

Alan Spark, a spokesman for the Stained Glass Studio and Gallery near the Tithe Barn, said: "We had an awful lot of people here. It's got to be 1,000 - they were coming in all morning."

There was an artists' boot sale where work was sold for cut prices, picnics on the lawns and ceramic art displays.

Mr Spark said: "It's about getting people involved to see what we are doing and about taking part in art in the community."

Children were also offered the opportunity to have their portraits sketched while adults sampled the teas and light refreshments.

Mr Spark said: "It was a fun day and we had music going on as well.

"The highlight was the whole aspect of taking part and making things."
