Tennis starlet Sam Hutt is heading to America after winning two national championships.

The 14-year-old from North Wall in Cricklade won the 14 and under boys' singles title as well as the boys doubles title at the British Junior National Tennis Championships in Bournemouth earlier this month.

He saved three match points in his 6-1 1-6 7-6 singles final win over number four seed Joshua Ward-Hibbert from Nottingham-shire.

And his win allows him to compete at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, in the unofficial 14 and under world championships in December.

"I was playing pretty well and I thought I could win but I knew it would be tough," said the former Bradon Forest School pupil.

"At first it didn't sink in but when I realised what I had done I felt proud of what I have been able to achieve.

"It is a massive boost and being able to go to America will build up my confidence a lot."

Hutt, who won the doubles with Suffolk's Myles Orton, has now set a target of success in the US before he breaks onto the international scene.

"Short term I want to do well at the Orange Bowl then in the international U18 tournaments," he said.

"In the end I want to progress, start playing in senior events and be on of the top players."

Hutt started playing tennis at six-years-old where he trained with county and national standard juniors at the Delta Tennis Centre in Swindon.

He then began training full-time at Wintennis Academy based at Bisham Abbey where he has boarded since September 2007.

Wiltshire LTA coach Neil Watts was proud of his protégé's achievements.

"In the last five or six years he has made great progress to be one of the top kids in his age group," he said.
