Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service is warning local businesses about publications claiming to be connected to the Firefighters Charity.
Over the past few weeks the service has received queries from people approached to place advertising in community safety publications.
Gus Cuthbert, director of operations, said: "We have been contacted by businesses who have been asked to advertise in various booklets.
"As a service, we are not involved in or endorsing any form of publication at this time; equally, the Firefighters Charity locally and nationally is not promoting any community safety publications."
He added: "Anyone selling advertising on behalf of Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service at any time will have a letter of authority from us, so I would urge anyone approached to buy space in these publications to make some checks."
