PUPILS at Westbury Infants School are collecting old Yellow Pages for a national environmental competition.
The Yellow Woods Challenge, which started in 2002, aims to attract around 100 local authorities, 2,500 schools and 500,000 schoolchildren this year.
Competing schools will have the chance of winning cash prizes with £600 being awarded to schools that recycle the highest number of old Yellow Pages per pupil and £100 being awarded to schools for creating the best artwork with their Yellow Pages .
Jan Ball, headteacher at the Eden Vale Road school, said: "One of my teaching assistants and one of the teachers have set up an eco team so we're encouraging the children to recycle all the time.
"We've been recycling jewellery, cartridges and phones for years but this time the children are setting the agenda rather than the teachers.
"It would be nice to reach 500 yellow pages for this challenge."
The competition started on Monday and runs until November 24. For more details visit www.yellow-woods.co.uk or call the Waste & Recycling team at West Wiltshire Council on 01225 776655.
