YOUNG people wondering what to do next after their GCSEs can get some good ideas at the Salisbury Choices Fair being held in the city next week.

Major local employers including the NHS and the armed forces will be on hand to answer questions, as well as all local schools and colleges that offer 6th form provision.

Diane Styant, from organisers Salisbury Connexions, said: "The young people have the opportunity to meet and discuss ideas with employers, training providers and schools and colleges to get all the information they need about their choices after year 11."

The fair, which has been running for about ten years, includes exhibits from training providers in a wide range of fields including construction, engineering, hairdressing, animal care, accounting and vehicle maintenance.

Connexions personal advisers will also be on hand to help young people find out more about courses and careers and about the best choices for them.

The fair has, in previous years, been held at the city hall in November, but this year has been brought forward a month, with the venue changing to The Guildhall.

The fair is aimed primarily at Year 11 students but all young people and their parents are welcome.

This year there is a quiz and a prize draw, with prizes including a morning co-presenting on Spire FM radio, a free session with Salisbury hairdresser Haircut Heaven and tickets for Salisbury Football Club.

It will be held on Wednesday, October 15 between 2.30pm and 7pm.

For further information contact the Salisbury Connexions Centre on 01722 424400.
