All girl Scout group triumph

GIRL power won through as a group of four youngsters became the first all-female team to lift the trophy in a Scouts hiking challenge.

Catherine, Kayley, Jasmine and Jessica from the 10th Salisbury Scouts triumphed in the event, which involved nearly 60 young people competing in teams of between three and six members.

The even, which took place around the hills above Downton, included challenges such as kebab cooking, trap making, tent pitching and making prayer mats, with points awarded for teamwork, smartness and performance.

Scout Hut Leader in charge Mick Chalke said that the girls had shown "Scouting co-operation at its best."

Now a completely co-educational movement, Scouting offers challenge and adventure to over 400,000 young people across the UK between age six and 25, including over 15,000 girls.
