Grandad Terry Reynolds is hoping to rap his way on to TV show Britain’s Got Talent.

The 65-year-old, of Green Hill, Neston, will perform for judges Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden in front of a 2,000-strong audience in Cardiff early next week with his group the Wrinkly Rappers.

The retired Wiltshire County Council highways inspector, who performs under the name Whiskers Tel, began the group as a joke while on holiday in Burnham-on-Sea in Essex.

He said: “It all just started out as a bit of fun really. Two teenagers in our caravan and camp club performed a rap about old people one night, saying how grumpy they are and so we came up with a rap about young people to let them know we can have fun.”

He joined forces with friends from Burnham-on-Sea, Brenda Brooks, 56, Marion Bower, 66, and Melinda Marks, 46.

He said: “The three ladies rap while I am the human beat box with my microphone and we use words like respect and get down in our lyrics.

“I never thought it would go as far as Britain’s Got Talent.”

The quartet have been performing together for seven months for charity. Mrs Brooks applied for the TV talent show in November.

“We didn’t think we would get in and then we got a phone call in December and were asked to audition in Cardiff,” said Mr Reynolds.

The group had the producer in such fits of laughter he ended up falling over on set. Now they are waiting to hear whether they will be performing for Mr Cowell on Monday or Tuesday.

Mr Reynolds said: “I will be wearing a VW medallion around my neck that I got from a friend’s Volkswagen camper van. I wanted to spray it gold but he won’t let me.”

He will be supported by his five grandchildren Amy, 12, and Chloe, ten, from Corsham and Emily, 14, Alice, ten, and George, seven, of Luckington, and wife Catherine, 61.

He said: “It’s all a bit of fun and we just want to make people smile.”
