DEVIZES Guardians' Nigel Carter has won the Devizes North division by 14 votes in the Wiltshire Council elections.
His nearest challenger was Conservative Paula Winchcombe, a former Kennet district councillor.
A disappointed Mrs Winchcombe said: "It was very difficult with a Labour held county seat and a Tory held district seat and the national situation as it is.
"But I am still a town councillor for the next four years and I will continue to serve the town to the best of my ability."
