POPSTARS The Saturdays made a triumphant return to Swindon yesterday.

The five-strong group performed at Lydiard Park during Radio 1’s Big Weekend in May.

They returned to Swindon yesterday to perform at the Oasis last night.

Band members Vanessa White, Una Healy, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford and Rochelle Wiseman signed copies of their fifth UK single “Work” at the HMV store in Regent Street ahead of the gig.

The group, which was formed in 2007, said they were glad to be back in the town as their first performance was well received.

Una, 27, said: “It was just overwhelming that so many people came here to HMV to see us.

“It was an easier crowd to play to than at the Big Weekend because there was a mixture of people to see us. But we were pleased how they interacted.

“The Big Weekend was a great experience and it was our first time on stage playing with a big band live in a festival-type setting.”

The Saturdays Work Tour began on June 2 in Glasgow.

Their only album to date, called Chasing Lights, has given the girls four UK top ten singles — “If This Is Love”, “Up”, “Issues” and “Just Can't Get Enough”.

Mollie said: “We try to be individual in our music – just really fun – and all our songs are good quality.

“They’re not specifically for one age group – we’ve got fans from six up to the age of 50.

“Our new single ‘Work’ is a catchy track. Even people with two left feet will want to dance to it.”

The girls said there was still plenty of room for the girl band market in the UK music industry and added it was great to visit their fans all over the country – especially in Swindon.

Una said: “We’re expecting good things from the Swindon crowd.

“We had fun last time we were here. We’re getting lots of little twitters from people who are here tonight.

“We want the crowd to get pumped up.”

The girls, who are supporting the Adver’s I Love Swindon campaign, are currently working on their second album having recorded a number of demo tracks.

It is expected to be released later this year. Their single “Work” was released this Monday.
