WILTSHIRE Police has appealed for men and women to be special constables.
The force is looking for people to volunteer to help manage crime scenes and patrol towns, including Swindon.
People interested have been asked to join an awareness event from 10am to 11.30am on Saturday, July 18, at the force’s HQ in Devizes.
Visitors will be given a chance to speak to existing special constables and recruitment specialists and find out more about policing in Wiltshire.
Training for the role includes courses in first aid and officer safety.
Successful candidates will be provided with a tutor to instruct them through their probationary periods.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Whether managing the scene of a serious assault, patrolling a town centre or working with the Schools Liaison officers, being a special constable is a satisfying voluntary role - it is a commitment to yourself and your local community.
“People join our team from all walks of life and sections of the community.
“Candidates need honesty, integrity and a sense of commitment.
“You must be physically fit with strong interpersonal skills and the self-confidence to deal with a wide variety of people.”
There are currently 180 special constables in Wiltshire, who work with 1,200 police officers in the county.
The selection process includes an aptitude test, interview, medical and fitness test.
Special constables are asked to work a minimum of 16 hours a month.
