Two teenagers needed to be treated for smoke inhalation after popcorn they were making in the microwave overcooked.
Great Western Ambulance Service said the exploding popcorn caused smoke to fill the kitchen at the house in Warminster, prompting in a 999 call at 10.45pm on Saturday.
The service sent out a double-manned ambulance from Warminster Station to the scene.
GWAS emergency care assistant Justin Whatley said: “We treated both patients at the scene but after assessing the female, who was suffering breathing problems, we decided she needed further checks at hospital.
“The fire service was not required at this incident as luckily the popcorn did not actually catch fire.
"The patients were suffering from the effects of breathing the smoke created by the burnt popcorn – which is not thought to have survived the incident.”
The girl was taken by ambulance to Salisbury District Hospital for further checks and treatment.
