Wiltshire College at Lackham is offering visitors the chance to see baby meerkats up close.
They’re just one of a selection of unusual animals and their babies to visit on tours of the animal centre at Lackham Country Park, when it opens its doors this Sunday, July 19 for the first event in a new season of family fun.
Also on display will be prairie dogs, alpacas, chipmunks and a selection of reptiles.
The Country Park and Museum of Rural Life, based at Wiltshire College Lackham, is taking part in the UK-wide event The Big Lunch.
The idea is that local families, friends, colleagues and communities will picnic together in the beautiful setting of Lackham.
There will also be beekeeping displays, spinning and weaving, craft stalls, bouncy castle and the miniature railway as well as refreshment stands serving ice cream, smoothies and homemade cakes.
Visitors will have the chance to stroll around the gardens and buy plants. Certain areas of the museum will also be open, although it is currently undergoing refurbishment and the profits from this event will be ploughed back into refurbishment costs.
The Country Park will open from 10.30am with last admission at 4pm. Entry prices are Adults £4.50, OAPs £3.50, Children £2.50.
The Big Lunch (www.thebiglunch.com) is the first in a whole season of events at the Country Park including art workshops, a children’s playday, bee and honey day, teddy bear’s picnic and kite flying.
Visit www.lackhamcountrypark.co.uk or telephone (01249) 466857 for complete listings and more information. The Country Park is only open for specific events and not on a daily basis.
