Parrot snacks on MP’s tree in Corsham

North Wiltshire MP James Gray turned into Dr Dolittle at the weekend when he rescued a rare parrot that had flown into his garden.

Unbeknown to Mr Gray, the African Grey parrot had escaped from its home in Broughton Gifford and stopped off for a quick snack on Mr Gray’s cherry tree.

He said: “I was astonished when a rare African Grey parrot flew into our cherry tree at our house near Corsham.

“He hopped onto my finger, was extremely affectionate and spent the night in a disused hamster cage.

“I knew that he must be a much-loved pet and we alerted the police, the RSPCA and other authorities.

“If his owner had not been found we would have been happy to give him a good home.”

Luckily, the parrot’s owner had put up posters in his local post office in Holt and the bird was reunited with him after being missing for four days.
