Live bands, cookery demonstrations and even a lone Dalek entertained the crowds at the 11th Woolley Street Festival in Bradford on Avon on Saturday.
Despite only gaining a temporary licence from Wiltshire Council’s sub-licensing committee for the event at the 11th hour, Darren Taylor, landlord of The George Pub, which hosted the event, said his first year in charge of it was a great success.
However, it was not only licensing issues that the pub had to contend with after two of three Daleks pulled out with swine flu.
Mr Taylor said: “The feedback that I have had is that all of the bands were brilliant and the variety of acts that we had made it well worth hanging around for.”
Local band, The Vault, were Mr Taylor’s act of the day, while Phantom Limb and Fungas Licks were also said to have impressed the crowds.
Among the many other acts on the day were singer/songwriter Leander Morales, pop/rock group Dirty ‘Arry and blues and swing artists The Rusticles.
“It couldn’t have worked out better for us this year. The rain held off and then came down slap bang on the last note played by the last band of the evening,” Mr Taylor said.
“The crowd were absolutely brilliant; it was a very good atmosphere.
“The strategies that we had in place to make it a successful and friendly event but not overbearing on the neighbours worked well I think.”
