Cherhilll concert for cancer sufferer

11:48am Thursday 8th October 2009

Folk rock band The Boys From County Hell will fill the village of Cherhill with music on Saturday as they help raise money for Clic Sargent.

A fundraising concert has been organised at The Black Hose pub in honour of eight-year-old Alice Strange, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in April.

The band will play from 8.30pm and during the day a group of people will undertake a sponsored walk from Barbury Castle to the pub.

Alice, who lives in Cherhill, has undergone months of intensive treatments.

After being allowed home after her first three weeks in Bristol Children’s Hospital, Alice suffered from a seizure – an extremely rare reaction to the chemotherapy.

Her mum Nicola, 45, said: “Only 12 children in the world have had this reaction.”

Alice made a complete recovery and after a week in hospital returned home to build her strength up.

Mrs Strange said: “Initially she was too frail to walk, but she went from strength to strength, soon returning to school for short visits with me.

“Since then she has managed a couple of half days at school on her own and one full day.”

All the money raised from the concert will be donated to Clic Sargent. To sign up for the walk call Ewan Smith on 07809 627801 or to make a donation visit www.justgiving.com/alice.strange
