The name of teenager Charlie Lamb who died in a car crash two weeks ago will live on in a charity being set up by his family.
In addition, cups are to be awarded annually at the three soccer clubs he played for in Pewsey, Devizes and Collingbourne Ducis.
His mother Jane, step father Mike Fowler and brother Jamie, 16, this week launched Charlie’s Charity to give financial help to aspiring young sportsmen and women.
It will also put money towards a £250,000 clubhouse and stand at Pewsey Vale Football Club where Charlie, 18, played this season.
Charlie’s stepfather is helping design the building.
Mrs Lamb, 48, said the family intended the charity to be a perpetual reminder of Charlie. “This will be a long term venture and the views of many is that Charlie will never be forgotten,” said Mrs Lamb, of West Grafton.
Charlie’s friends at Pewsey Vale, who sang at his thanksgiving service on Tuesday last week, have recorded a CD of soccer songs to sell in aid of the charity and one of his closest football pals, Craig Simmonds of Marlborough, is selling Charlie’s Charity wrist bands.
Next season the family will be donating cups for Pewsey, Devizes and Tritax at Collingbourne football clubs.
They will also be putting up Charlie Lamb Sports Awards for players who have shown the most sportsmanship during the season.
The charity was launched with £1,400 donated at Charlie’s thanksgiving at St John the Baptist Church at Pewsey.
A collection was also made at Saturday’s game at which Devizes beat Cricklade 4-3.
