Volunteers are being sought to skipper a boat showing tourists the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust has leased the 60 ft long Kenavon Venture from Ian and Sue Sharp of White Horse Boats.

The boat can take up to 50 passengers and the trust plans to take it either to Horton or to the first few locks of the Caen Hill flight.

The boat is moored at Devizes Wharf where the trust’s museum and shop is based.

Canal trust general manager Mike Rodd would like to recruit 60 volunteers who would be fully trained.

He said: “We are looking to train ten different crews as we would like one crew to do one or two trips a week.

“We are looking for volunteers to be skippers, boat and booking managers, helmspersons, crew and bar attendants.”

Those interested are invited to a meeting at the canal centre, Couch Lane at 7.30pm on February 1.
