Calne Town Council has announced a date for the town’s Summer Festival this year.
The event will coincide with the Tri-Party Twinning visit. This will take place on June 19, when the town will host representatives from all three twin towns – Charlieu in France, Eningen in Germany and Caln in America – for the first time ever.
In October councillors voted to increase the town events budget from £10,000 to £15,000 in preparation for the celebrations.
Town development support officer Clare Harris said: “This twinning visit is special as it will be the third tri-nation visit and the first time we have received both of our European twins at the same time. It will also mark the 40th anniversary of Calne being twinned with Charlieu.
“The date of the Summer Festival has been chosen specifically to coincide with the visit.
“It will provide the perfect opportunity to showcase the town whilst creating a fantastic community event for everyone to enjoy.”
The town council are working closely with a number of community groups and organisations and promise an action packed day of events in the town centre, including the much anticipated carnival procession.
The day will include an arts and crafts market, a children’s village, street stalls, Jennings funfair, a classic car display and live music.
A time for the carnival procession has yet to be confirmed.
