Calne play area set to open on Friday

The new play area at North End in Calne will be open for use from Friday.

Calne Topwn Coucnil clerk Linda Roberts said: "As this marks the beginning of the half term holiday , the timing is perfect and it is hoped that the young people of Calne will have the opportunity to get to know and enjoy the fabulous new equipment there is on offer, with something for everyone.

"The town council would welcome any comments from young people on the facilities on offer and hope that although it has taken a little longer than planned that the wait has certainly been worth it. North End Play Area is set to be one of the best play facilities for young people in North Wiltshire.

"As the former deputy town clerk and now town clerk working on the project from conception to fruition has been both rewarding and frustrating but I would never give up believing that the young people in our town deserve something that is both exciting and gets Calne on the map as far as play provision is concerned."

There is still some more equipment to be installed following further grant funding awarded by Aiming High at Play and this should be completed within the next six weeks.

An official grand opening of the play area will then be organised. Calne Town Council would like to say a huge thank you to the Playbuilder Funding which was the final piece in the jigsaw to complete the necessary funding.

No one can deny the need for a new playground for north calne however did it really need to take up the whole field? Where will the people go who played football and cricket in the summer on that field?or those that walked there dog everyday there?
By supplying equipment for one group of people it has wrecked sevaral.

Probably be full of drug needles by the weekend. I've seen kids running out of that Tesco Express with their arms full of stolen booze too many times now to trust anything up there. The football ground was wrecked as well and the tractor there burned out.
