Cricklade sea cadet's royal day

A sea Cadet from Cricklade has been selected as Cadet Ambassador for the South West and was honoured by a meeting with the Queen in London last week.

Petty Officer Cadet Douglas Stinton, 16, from Cricklade and a member of the Wootton Bassett unit of the Sea Cadets, has been a member since the age of ten.

He was at Buckingham Palace to mark the Cadet 150, the 150th anniversary of the founding of UK cadet forces.

He said: “I was delighted to learn that I had been chosen to represent my region at the launch. It is an outstanding honour.”

Cadet 150 was launched on Wednesday last week and marks a milestone for the successful voluntary organisation, which has 131,000 young members.

Douglas was one of 26 cadet ambassadors selected to meet the Queen.

He has gained several qualifications as part of the Sea Cadets, including a BTEC in Public Services.
